Having a great team is essential to the work that we do at the Immigration Resource Center of San Gabriel Valley. I’m thankful that I get to work with individuals that not only are really good at what they do, but are also caring, compassionate and provide high quality legal services with such respect and dignity. As a team, I know that there are certain strengths that I bring to the table and in areas that I am perhaps not as strong, my colleagues are able to provide me with assistance and vice versa.
Recently, I had a client that in his younger years experienced a lot of hardship and he made some choices that later led to several DUI convictions. Over 10 years had passed and our client had become sober, but was worried that his past would keep him from ever becoming a US citizen. This client got the help he needed and was able to rehabilitate. Decades later, as his health was deteriorating, he wanted to see if he could become a Naturalized citizen and fulfill his dream of US Citizenship.
Knowing that this client was not the sum of the mistakes that he made in the past and due to his history of rehabilitation, we were retained as his representatives. We knew there was a very high chance that he would not be able to Naturalize. As a legal representative, I had to recognize my own limitations and I’m thankful that I had a teammate that I not only trust and felt comfortable consulting with, but know that is highly skilled. Stephanie is the Senior Paralegal of our organization and is a recent law graduate from McGeorge School of Law. Due to years of experience she brings her extensive knowledge in legal research and writing to the team.
While I oversaw the case management, it was Stephanie’s research and legal writing skills that helped to identify the best legal arguments to support this particular client’s case. This client is now a US Citizen and fulfilled one of his life’s dreams and aspirations.
