Helping Survivors Rebuild: IRCSGV’s February 8 Workshop for Displaced Immigrants of the Eaton Canyon Fires
On February 8, 2025, the Immigration Resource Center of San Gabriel Valley (IRCSGV) hosted a vital workshop to support survivors of the Eaton Canyon fire who lost their homes—and, with them, their critical immigration documents. In the wake of such devastation, we recognize that rebuilding is about more than just replacing belongings; it is about restoring stability, identity, and peace of mind, especially during a season when immigrants feel especially vulnerable.
Thanks to the dedication of our partners, we were able to provide essential legal services to eight individuals, completely free of charge. The Law Offices of Alma Puente sent legal representatives to guide attendees through the complex process of replacing lost documentation, and organized community support to ensure that free coffee and pizza would be provided as hospitality for volunteers and participants. Harambee Ministries, located in Pasadena, generously hosted the event, providing a welcoming space for survivors to receive support. Additionally, CHIRLA played a crucial role by sending legal experts and covering all filing fees, ensuring that no survivor faced a financial barrier to regaining their legal status.
Beyond the eight individuals assisted at the workshop, we also connected with five more people who, while unable to attend, will continue receiving help in the coming weeks.
This workshop was a testament to the power of community collaboration and resilience. When disaster strikes, the path forward can feel overwhelming, but with the right support, no one has to walk it alone. IRCSGV remains steadfast in our mission to uplift and empower immigrants, ensuring that everyone—regardless of circumstance—has access to the resources they need to thrive.
To those affected by the fire, we stand with you. To our incredible partners and supporters, thank you for making this work possible. And to our community, let’s continue to build a future where no one is left behind.
If you or someone you know has been displaced by the fires and still needs assistance with replacing documents, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are here to help.
